Diocese of Rapid City, South Dakota

The Rapid City and Ft. Pierre, South Dakota Hundredfold Workshops were a huge success! With only 22,000 Catholics in the diocese of Rapid City, 70 parishioners representing 2/3 of the 64 parishes were in attendance and fired up to promote vocations to the priesthood, religious life, and sacramental marriage!

Audience in Rapid City.Fr. Mark McCormack is an awesome Vocation Director (he is waving in the back of the room in the photo).

Funny story! When Fr. Mark’s assistant Shawna picked me up to go to the workshop, she said we were going to meet Fr. Mark at her house. When we arrive, she drives her Subaru 4-door through a cow pasture. She says, “We have to check on two cows that are ready to give birth.” She hops over the barbed wire fence in her dress pants and carefully side steps cow paddies to check on the cows! This city girl was in shock by the whole thing! Great memory!

Something that I learned from South Dakota is their deep desire to grow spiritually, which comes from their Bishop shepherding them. During the intercessory prayers during EVERY mass, parishioners say the prayer below on the left. Amazing! Then, during the workshop in Rapid City, Fr. Steve, pastor of the host church, changed the prayer for parents and grandparents to say! Wow! Please say these prayers!

St. Alphonsus Liguori, pray for us!

Vocation Prayer from Sioux Falls and Rapid City

Lord Jesus, Son of the Eternal Father and Mary Immaculate, grant to our young people the generosity necessary to follow Your call and the courage required to overcome all obstacles to their vocation. Give the parents that faith, love and spirit of sacrifice which will inspire them to offer their children to God’s service and to rejoice whenever one of their children is called to the priesthood and religious life. Let your example and that of Your Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph encourage both young people and parents and let Your grace sustain them. Amen.

Adapted for Parents and Grandparents

Lord Jesus, Son of the Eternal Father and Mary Immaculate, grant to my children/grandchildren the generosity necessary to follow Your call and the courage required to overcome all obstacles to their vocation. Give us that faith, love and spirit of sacrifice which will inspire us to offer our children to God’s service and to rejoice whenever one of our children is called to the priesthood and religious life. Let your example and that of Your Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph encourage both young people and parents and let Your grace sustain all of us. Amen.
